Observe function not working on FMB or Smartstation

Overview

The users who should have access to the Observe function in the FMB or Smartstation are not able to access it.  When they select Observe, no names appear to select from and the following error dialog is displayed:

Solution

This issue occurs because the OASIS servers which run on Virtual Machines (VMs) can have their system times drift apart even though they are synchronized using the default Microsoft settings.  When the difference between the VMs is large enough, the User Logon session can be marked as inactive in the Oasis Management Portal.

To resolve this issue, please open a Volt Delta UK Support Ticket with the details of the issue your users are experiencing and a few usernames of the users who have access to the Observe function.

For Support Agents Only:

To resolve this issue with the VM times drifting too far even though they are synchronized with the default Microsoft settings, you will need access to the Volt Delta UK Servers to either install a Network Time Synchronization application or the default registry settings for the Windows Time service can be updated with the following values:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\W32Time\TimeProviders\VMICTimeProvider:
Enabled=0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\W32Time\Config:
MaxAllowedPhaseOffset=1
UpdateInterval=100
MaxPollInterval=6
MinPollInterval=3
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\W32Time\Parameters:
NtpServer=<Domain Controller IPs>,0x8

NOTE: After the registry changes are made, the W32Time service has to be restarted.
